Good feelings don’t last long
Sometimes I wonder if medical secretaries are trained to be both stupid and superior. Dr J’s secretary scores highly on both scales. It takes weeks of unreturned phone calls just to get the OGTT arranged – then I asked about the Cushing’s test. I’m no expert, but even I know she is talking bollocks when she claims the OGTT will suffice.
My opinion was confirmed when I turned up for the OGTT and asked the nurse conducting the test. Not only did she confirm the secretary was talking rubbish, but she also took my contact details and took responsibility for arranging the Cushing’s test via the endo department. True to her word, she called me a couple of hours after I got home to not only apologise on behalf of the endo department but to confirm Dr J’s junior would write with full instructions for the test and a prescription for the drugs required. Within a week, I’ve had the dexamethasone suppression test.
